FIU is deeply committed to supporting students' growth both inside and outside the classroom. The training courses below are required for all FIU students and are designed to provide a general understanding of important topics and issues that can impact the college experience. We’ve created this one-stop resource to make accessing and completing these required trainings easier.

Required Trainings

  • Sexual Assault Prevention

    Preventing sexual assault at our university and in our society requires FIU students, staff, and faculty to act, collaborate, and speak out against sexual violence. RespectEdu, FIU’s Sexual Assault Prevention Training, equips students with practical knowledge and tools to recognize, prevent, and respond to sexual violence, empowering them to contribute to a safer campus culture for themselves and their peers.

    • All FIU undergraduate and graduate students are REQUIRED to complete their assigned RespectEdu course, typically within their first semester of enrollment.
    • Failure to complete the course will result in an enrollment hold.

  • Hazing Prevention

    Hazing violates the FIU Student Conduct and Honor Code as well as Florida state law. FIU has established robust policies and procedures to prevent hazing activities and ensure student safety. The course training titled Hazing Prevention 101: It’s Everyone’s Responsibility Training helps students understand the dangers and consequences of hazing and its impact on individuals and the broader community. It emphasizes the importance of fostering a culture of respect, safety, and accountability at FIU.

    • All FIU undergraduate and graduate students are REQUIRED to complete this course, typically within their first semester of enrollment.

  • Active Shooter Awareness & Preparation

    Led by FIU Police and Emergency Management, the Active Shooter Awareness and Preparation for Students Training equips students with essential strategies for responding to active shooter threats. It focuses on preparedness, safety, and making informed decisions to protect yourself and others during emergencies.

    • All FIU undergraduate and graduate students are REQUIRED to complete this course, typically within their first semester of enrollment.
    • Failure to complete the course will result in an enrollment hold.

  • Career Readiness

    The Panther Career Readiness Training students with the tools to start building a foundation for future success. For new college graduates, career readiness is essential for a smooth transition into the workforce. This course is designed to help students launch their careers successfully.

    • All New FIU freshmen students are required to complete this course, typically within their first semester of enrollment.
    • Failure to complete the course will result in an enrollment hold.

  • What is Pawsitively Aware?

    Pawsitively Aware is FIU's student education initiative that provides mandatory online trainings designed to promote a safer campus community. These trainings cover topics including Sexual Assault Prevention (RespectEdu), Hazing Prevention, and Active Shooter Awareness & Preparation.

  • Are these trainings mandatory?

    Yes. All assigned Pawsitively Aware trainings are mandatory for all FIU students. Failure to complete required trainings will result in an enrollment hold and/or To-Do List item on your student account, preventing you from registering for classes.

  • Which trainings am I required to complete?

    Your required trainings are assigned based on your student status and will appear automatically in your FIU Develop Student Dashboard. These may include:

    • RespectEdu for Undergraduate Students or RespectEdu for Graduate Students
    • Hazing Prevention 101: It’s Everyone’s Responsibility
    • Active Shooter Awareness & Preparation for STUDENTS
  • How long does the training take?
    • Sexual Assault Prevention-RespectEdu: Approximately 120 minutes
    • Hazing Prevention: Approximately 90 minutes
    • Active Shooter Awareness & Preparation: Approximately 15 minutes
  • How do I access my assigned trainings?
    1. Log in to FIU Develop using your FIU student credentials.
    2. Click your name in the upper-right corner.
    3. Select Student Dashboard.
    4. Your assigned trainings will appear under Not Complete or In Progress.

    Note: Students DO NOT need to create an account or self-enroll. All required trainings are automatically assigned.

  • I can't find my training

    Log in to FIU Develop and select Student Dashboard. Your assigned trainings will appear under:

    • Not Complete
    • In Progress
    • Completed
  • The training opens in a new tab but nothing happens

    If no new tab appears, allow pop-ups for the website and allow a moment for the course to load.

  • My course won't load

    Try the following troubleshooting tips: 

    • Use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
    • Avoid Microsoft Edge.
    • Enable JavaScript, pop-ups, and cookies.
    • Use a desktop or laptop whenever possible.
    • Keep the course open in only one browser tab.
    • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
    • Restart your browser or computer.

  • Can I leave the course and come back later?

    Yes. Your progress is saved automatically, and you'll return to the last page you visited.

  • I'm both a student and an employee. Which account should I use?

    If you are both a student and an employee of the university, we ask that you complete the training using your STUDENT credentials to receive credit.

  • How do I know I have successfully completed the training?

    After successful completion, FIU Develop will generate a Certificate of Completion, and you will receive a confirmation email from Canvas Catalog.

  • Why didn't I receive my certificate?

    A certificate is only generated when all completion requirements are met. Common reasons include:

    • One or more knowledge checks were below the required score.
    • Not ALL sections were completed.
    • The final NEXT button in Canvas was not selected after finishing the course.
    • The course was exited before reaching the "Thank You" screen.
  • When will my enrollment hold be removed?

    Enrollment holds and To-Do List items are typically removed from PantherSoft within 5 business days.

    If your hold remains after 5 business days:

    • Verify that you completed every course requirement.
    • Confirm you received your Canvas Catalog certificate email.
    • Contact Student Health & Wellness if the issue persists at shwad@fiu.edu with you FIU email and Panther ID.
  • Can my hold be removed before I complete the trainings?

    Enrollment holds are removed only after successful completion of the required training.

  • I completed all my Hazing Prevention training, but it's still showing as incomplete

    Make sure you've completed both the entire training and the REQUIRED Attestation at the end of the course. Without completing the Attestation, the course will not be marked complete.

  • How do I complete the Attestation?

    From your Student Dashboard:

    1. Open the Hazing Prevention course.
    2. Select Modules.
    3. Open Attestation.
    4. Select correct answer on the quiz.
    5. Submit your response.
  • I am an online student... do I need to complete these trainings?

    Yes. All students pursuing a degree, even if they are fully online students, are required to complete this training. While some questions may be tailored to on-campus students, the training provides information that can prevent/identify/stop sexual violence in any environment and is not limited to college students.

  • Should I save my certificate?

    Yes. We strongly recommend saving a copy of your Certificate of Completion for your records.

  • Who should I contact if I still need help?
