Graduate Assistantships

*Disclaimer:  $621 bi-weekly – 8 month contract (August- April with option of summer employment) and Tuition Waiver – 20 hr/wk

  • Career Services

    Office of Business Career Management Services FIU Business

    • Will assist staff with the career development/exploration process for all levels of business students
    • Will learn career development/exploration process, learn OBCM technology platforms, creation of new career related workshops/events etc.

    Career and Talent Development  - Employer Engagement

    • Assist in the development of new employer contacts and maintenance of existing employer relationships
    • Market employer and special events to all students
    • Present workshops as needed an special projects as assigned
    • Provide input regarding our services and programs, particularly in terms of assessment and ways to improve
  • Housing

    Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (Graduate Assistant for Residential Life)

    • Recruit and oversee the election process of the residence hall/apartment area, and/or induct Hall Council Members
    • Assist with Recruitment, selection, training and co-supervising student Desk Assistants and Resident Assistants
    • Provide on-scene crisis response to campus/housing situations and provide support for RAs and participate in rotating on-call duty coverage
    • Perform administrative duties as assigned
  • Student Support

    Transfer and Transition Services (Connect4Success)

    • Assist with coordinating various department events and initiatives, such as meet and greets, C4S Kickoffs, and FIU-MDC Day
    • Will reignite and reimagine the Transfer Ambassador Program
    • Assist with student appointments and walk-ins as well as securing and preparing student presenters for events
    • Assist in the development of departmental flyers, social media posts, etc.

    Men’s Engagement Programs (Centers for Student Engagement)

    • Serve on the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration Committee and assist assigned events and programs
    • Contribute ideas to develop, modify, evaluate, and facilitate programs/workshops for the annual Masculinity
    • Develop and provide resources for men and male identifying student around topics of masculinity, gender equity, personal development, relationship building, sexual assault

    Pride Center (Centers for Student Engagement)

    • Develop and provide resources for LGBTQIA+ people on and off campus as well as collaborate on LGBTQIA+ programs focused on leadership development, identity, community, empowerment, mental health and wellbeing, joy, scholarly development and more
    • Provide advisement, information, referrals, and advocacy to and on behalf of LGBTQIA+ community
    • Attend and assist in planning for student travel to the LGBTQ Task Force’s Creating Change Conference Annually
    • Help facilitate and evaluate the Safe Zone Advocate Training program and other voluntary trainings

    Educational Programs (Centers for Student Engagement)

    • Work under the umbrella of CSE, assist the Program Manager in developing and implementing programs and services for various historically marginalized and underrepresented student populations at FIU
    • Coordinate and collaborate on programs for Hispanic Heritage Month, American Indian Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American Heritage Month and other historically marginalized or underrepresented histories
    • Contribute creative and innovative ways to support students and meet their current needs, collaborate with students, faculty, and staff on both campuses

    Center for Testing and Career Certification

    • Provides clerical and administrative support to the Center for Testing and Career Certification and will liaise with departments across the institution to promote CTCC/IESS testing-related policies
    • Reviews remote testing sessions and updates relevant databases with scores
    • Supports departmental marketing and social media strategies

    Disability Resource Center

    • Assisting staff with various administrative tasks, organizing student workshops and departmental trainings and overseeing the provision of accommodation implementation
    • Data entry into DRC student database
    • Provide support and guidance to faculty and administrators on topics of accessibility

    International Student and Scholar Services- Biscayne Bay Campus

    • Assists the professional staff in special projects, cultural programs, and annual reports as assigned
    • Helps advise on ISSS policies and procedures and on general student issues as well as assists in identifying and addressing student concerns
    • Helps coordinate ISSS immigration workshops, information sessions, orientations, conferences, field trips and other student events

    International Student and Scholar Services- Modesto Maidique Campus

    • Assists the professional staff in special projects, cultural programs, and annual reports as assigned
    • Helps advise on ISSS policies and procedures and on general student issues as well as assists in identifying and addressing student concerns
    • Helps coordinate ISSS immigration workshops, information sessions, orientations, conferences, field trips and other student events

    Global Learning Initiatives

    • Communicate with internal and external audiences via Mailchimp
    • Support for the OGLI Assistant Director: assist in planning and set up of GLM & PCP graduation ceremonies each semester, NYT Keynote Speaker, work on goglobal website
    • Support for the Tuesday Roundtable

    Office of Student Access & Success

    • Will assist in the implementation of program objectives (retention and graduation) and the development of student-oriented programming
    • Assisting staff with various administrative tasks, organizing workshops, and overseeing mentorship and student/club organization activities
    • Data entry into Student Access database as well as holding office hours and meeting with students
    • Assisting program development (workshops, mentorship activities, and club activities)

    Student Success Course & Peer Mentor

    • Assist the student Success Course Team with daily operations & help manage the SDS 4340 Post Graduation Course Logistics
    • Help manage the Peer Mentor Program including: facilitation of recruitment, training and Canvas Course as well as produce supplemental materials to support peer mentors throughout the academic year
    • Assist with annual instructor training, FYE Instructor Certification Process each semester
    • Assist with office programs, events, and initiatives

     Common Reading Program, Office of Academic Support Initiatives & Services

    • Help coordinate the Common Reading Program, targeted at first-year students
    • Tasks for the position: reading recommended books; planning and executing on-campus events; developing a faculty instructional guide to effectively integrate the common reading book; assisting with the essay contest; attending committee meetings and taking minutes; drafting letters; conducting program research, and working with campus partners on relevant training
    • Assist with First-year orientation and Freshman Convocation, supporting the National Student Exchange Program
  • Student Life

    Center for Leadership & Service (MMC)

    • Co-Advise Roarathon Steering Committee and providing support to the Academy of Leaders Program
    • Participate in workshop presentations, community engagement initiatives and special projects upon request

    Center for Leadership & Service (BBC)

    • Co-Advise Alternative Breaks, Relay for Life philanthropy event, assist with democratic engagement events
    • Participate in workshop presentations, community engagement initiatives and special projects upon request

    Fraternity and Sorority Life

    • Graduate Co-Advisor to Order of Omega National Honorary and its responsibilities such as advising executive board, programming etc.
    • Will also have community level responsibilities such as New Member Symposium, coordinating touchpoints etc.

    Office of University Admissions

    • Serves a resource to assist in the recruitment and admission of graduate students who wish to continue their education at FIU
    • Will lead information sessions for prospective students, manage social media, facilitate recruitment management in conjunction with Graduate Recruitment Team, and provide prospective students customer service
    • Will assist with domestic recruitment and be assigned specifically to work with the university’s graduate recruitment team; information sessions, college fairs, and other outreach programs as schedules permit

    Orientation & Family Programs

    • Assist in Planning & implementation of summer, fall and spring freshmen & transfer orientation
    • Assist in the coordination, advising, training and supervision of Peer Advisor and Panther Camp program
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of all office wide programs

    Student Centers

    • Assist with managing daily Wolfe University Center operations, as well as assist with hiring, training, and supervising student staff
    • Collaborate with custodians to ensure all housekeeping needs are met
    • Liaise with event patrons, providing high-quality event management and customer services
    • Respond to/facilitate response to emergency situations within the WUC

     Student Conduct & Academic Integrity

    • Facilitate educational sanctions for SCAI
    • Investigate and adjudicate reported violations of the Student Conduct and Honor Code, specifically behavioral misconduct
    • Developing and facilitating campaigns and initiatives related to educating the FIU community about the Code
