Pre-Approved Alternative Health Insurance Plans

FIU Health Compliance has identified several alternative insurance plans options available. These plans meet the minimum Florida Board of Governor’s requirements, these plans may have reduced benefits and additional exclusions compared to the school sponsored plan through Academic HealthPlan. FIU does not endorse alternative insurance plans, and students are strongly advised to review the policies of alternative plans prior to purchasing coverage. FIU is not responsible if the plan you purchase does not cover.

If you choose an alternative plan, you are NOT required to provide a Compliance Form. You are required to submit proof of insurance via email to insure@fiu.edu. The email MUST include your:

  • Name
  • PID #
  • Certificate of coverage

Note: Monthly payment options will not be accepted for any International Students. Insurance coverage must be paid in FULL for the semester.

Please be aware that there is a 24–48-hour processing time during weekdays for all incoming documents. To check the status of your hold, you may log on to your my.fiu.edu.

FIU is not responsible if the plan you purchase does not cover your medical bills.  It is strongly encouraged you consider the school sponsored plan prior to purchasing an alternative plan which may have reduced benefits and additional exclusions. 

***Compliance Form submission not required for PSI, ISI ,IFS, ISP and ISO. Enrollment notification is received by Health Compliance within 48-72 hours of purchase of the approved policies.
