Office of Student Success Operations and Strategy

The Office of Student Success Operations and Strategy helps FIU achieve its student success goals by fostering a data-driven approach to support undergraduate progression and graduation.

Its three main objectives are:

  1. Cultivating a data-informed culture to enhance student progress toward graduation.
  2. Identifying at-risk students and implementing targeted outreach to improve retention and on-time graduation.
  3. Recognizing and addressing institutional barriers to student success through process improvements and policy recommendations.

Student Success Operations and Strategy also oversees the Success Courses Curriculum, which offers courses like First Year Experience, designed to support and enhance student success at FIU.

Data Insights and Strategy

The Data Insights and Strategy team drives FIU’s student success efforts by providing real-time, actionable data to support decision-making and college-level interventions.

They work with academic departments to create strategies that help students stay on track and meet with different teams across the university to find and fix obstacles that could slow down student progress.

By analyzing data from different platforms, the team focuses on key areas such as academic operations, course availability, student retention and graduation rates. They also track the progress of university-wide student success initiatives and implement best practices to enhance student outcomes at FIU.

Student Progression and Outreach

The Student Progression and Outreach team uses data to identify students facing challenges with retention, course progress or graduation. They contact struggling students and work with campus partners to solve issues like re-enrollment, registration holds, tuition payments, incomplete grades and graduation requirements, among others.

The team also partners with academic departments to support students struggling in their courses or falling behind in their major. Students who miss key course milestones are invited to meet with a progression specialist to explore their options and create a plan to get back on track.

Success Courses Curriculum

Success Courses are high-impact classes designed to equip students with essential life skills for college and beyond. While not all courses are required, students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of them.

These courses offer a space for self-exploration, connecting with peers and having fun!

Faculty and staff are invited to teach select courses (SLS 1501, 1510, 1402, and 3407). To apply, email sls1501@fiu.edu.
