Office of Student Success Operations and Strategy

The Office of Student Success Operations and Strategy helps FIU achieve its student success goals by fostering a data-driven approach to support undergraduate progression to graduation.

Its three main objectives are:

  1. Cultivating a data-informed culture to enhance student progress toward graduation.
  2. Identifying students who may need additional support and implementing targeted interventions to improve retention and on-time graduation.
  3. Recognizing and addressing institutional barriers to student success through process improvements and policy recommendations.

The Office of Student Success Operations and Strategy also oversees the University's Success Courses which include courses ranging from the First Year Experience course through the Post-Graduation Course, which are designed to support and enhance student success at FIU.

Data Insights and Strategy Team

The Data Insights and Strategy team drives student success efforts by providing real-time, actionable data to support decision-making and college-level interventions. They work with academic and student support units across campus to implement strategies that help students stay on track, while working to identify and remove any institutional barriers to student success.

By analyzing data from different platforms, the team focuses on key areas such as academic operations, course availability, student retention and graduation rates. They also track the progress of university-wide student success initiatives and implement best practices to enhance student outcomes at FIU.

Student Success Project Team

The Student Success Project team uses data to identify and reach out to students facing challenges with re-enrollment or progression to graduation. They work with campus partners to resolve issues related to registration holds, tuition payments, incomplete grades and graduation requirements, among others.

The team also partners with academic departments to support students struggling in their courses or falling behind in their major. Students who miss key course milestones are invited to meet with the team to explore their options and create a plan to get back on track.

STEP Success Team

The STEP Success Team supports first-year students admitted into the Supported Transition to Excellence (STEP) Pathway by delivering proactive, structured, and personalized support designed to ease the transition into college and promote early academic success. Through targeted outreach, engagement touchpoints, and Student Success Plans, the team assists students in meeting critical milestones and progression requirements established within the pathway.

Collaborating closely with campus partners, the team connects students to workshops, academic resources, and specialized support services that strengthen foundational skills and foster persistence. By providing personalized support and consistent guidance, the STEP Success Team empowers students to navigate their first year with confidence and stay on track toward graduation.

Success Courses Team

The Success Courses team manages a variety of high-impact classes designed to equip students with essential skills for college and beyond. These include the University’s First Year Experience course and lab, as well as Strategies for Success, Discover Your Major, Major and Career Exploration, and Post-Graduation courses. We offer nearly 300 class sections with over 6,000 enrollments across these success courses each year.
