Florida International University provides subsidized health insurance to all Graduate Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Fellows holding a full-term appointment for 20 hours per week. All graduate assistants will be enrolled in the new Graduate Assistant health insurance program.
Graduate Assistants will pay a percentage of the insurance premium through payroll deduction. All Graduate Assistants are required to participate in this health insurance plan unless they wish to opt-out.
(This does not apply to international students, or students on an F1 or J1 visa*)
Graduate Assistants and Fellows are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan (SHIP). Graduate Assistants and Fellows may opt out of SHIP by submitting proof of alternate insurance.

To qualify for a SHIP waiver, your alternate health insurance must meet or exceed the requirements as set forth below and AHP must receive the waiver request by the waiver deadline:
