Florida International University provides subsidized health insurance to eligible Graduate Assistants with full-term appointments of 20 hours per week.
All eligible Graduate Assistants are automatically enrolled in the School Health Insurance Plan. Participants contribute a portion of the premium through payroll deductions.
Enrollment in this plan is required unless the Graduate Assistant submits proof of comparable health insurance coverage and is approved for a waiver.
Important: Graduate Assistants and Fellows are automatically enrolled in the School Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Domestic Graduate Assistants and Fellows may request to opt out of the SHIP by providing proof of alternate coverage that meets the plan's waiver requirements.
International students and students on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible to waive SHIP and must maintain the required student health insurance coverage.
