Assessment Plan

FIU has a comprehensive assessment plan, comprising both quantitative and qualitative data collected through direct and indirect measures, to assess achievement of the QEP goals. The project plan specifies the assessment plan timeline, QEP performance measures, student learning outcomes, and responsible personnel.

Student Learning Outcomes

Overview

  • GOAL I.

FIU will constitute the QEP organizational structure and budget to enhance students’ preparation for the 21st-century workforce.

    Milestone:

    • FIU SACSCOC Leadership Team approves QEP framework, organizational structure, and budget.
  • GOAL II.

FIU will develop, deliver, and issue micro-credentials through a pilot study to establish a methodology for assessing and enhancing student competency in AI, data, and EI.

    Milestones:

    • FIU SACSCOC Leadership Team approves micro-credential content, assessment methodologies, and pilot study protocol
    • FIU IRB approves micro-credential pilot study
    • Conduct pilot study data analyses
    • Revise micro-credential modules as needed based on pilot study data

    Performance Indicators
    :

    • Enroll sufficient students in the pilot study (20–25 students per micro-credential)
    • 80% of students enrolled in curricular micro-credentials and 60% of students enrolled co-curricular micro-credentials complete one badge (meet success criteria on all assessments)
  • GOAL III.

FIU will engage and incentivize students to enroll and complete the micro-credentials that develop their competency in AI, data, and EI.

    Milestones:

    • FIU SACSCOC Leadership team approval of communication campaign
    • Student recognition at graduation

    Performance Indicators
    :

    • # of students who enroll in micro-credentials (based on 5-year projections)
    • 80% of students enrolled in curricular micro-credentials and 60% of students enrolled co-curricular micro-credentials complete one badge (meet success criteria on all assessments)
  • GOAL IV.

FIU will engage and incentivize faculty and subject-matter experts to implement curricular and co-curricular micro-credentials that advance students’ 21st-century skills in AI, data, and EI.

    Milestone:

    • Office of Academic Planning and Accountability approval of professional development training content and assessment methodology

    Performance Indicators
    :

    • # of faculty recruited
    • Faculty training completion rates
    • Faculty learning outcomes
    • Faculty satisfaction
    • # of trained faculty and subject-matter experts implementing curricular and co-curricular micro-credentials (based on 5-year projections)
    • # of sections of curricular and co-curricular micro-credentials offered (based on 5-year projections)
    • # of students completing curricular and co-curricular micro-credentials (based on 5-year projections)
  • GOAL V.

FIU will execute an assessment plan and reporting cycle for continuous improvement to support students’ acquisition of knowledge, skills, abilities, and values related to AI, data, and EI.

    Student Learning Outcome (direct measure):

    • Students will achieve a score of 80% or higher on each assessment (e.g., quiz, project, assignment) in the micro-credential modules.

    Student Learning Outcomes (indirect measures)
    :

    • Students will achieve a score an 80% or higher on the summative reflection assignment.
    • Students will be satisfied with the micro-credential experience, as indicated by an average rating of 4 or higher on the overall satisfaction survey.
    • Students will rate their perceived learning achievement by an average rating of 4 or higher on the overall satisfaction survey.
    • Based on a thematic analysis of qualitative data, students will express perceived ability to describe, apply, and communicate competencies acquired through their participation in a micro-credential.

Assessment cycle

The QEP assessment cycle will mirror the institutional assessment process to ensure sustainability and integration with the existing culture of assessment. Data collection for student learning outcomes assessments and for QEP performance measures will be analyzed using a cyclical process, by which student learning outcomes data will be collected for every micro-credential offering each semester, QEP performance measures will be collected in accordance with the timeline defined in the project plan, and all data will be summarized and evaluated annually in a QEP ongoing progress report.
