Parents and Families

We strongly believe that family provides crucial support for the experiences that students will encounter at FIU. Orientation and Family Programs exist to help with this transition beginning at Orientation.

We invite all parents and families to participate in our Parent and Family week of opportunities.

Parent and Family Orientation

First-Year Students: Parent and Family Orientation is an optional in-person program that runs concurrently with the first day of your student's First-Year Orientation. It will provide you as the parent/family member with important information about FIU tailored to your role in students' collegiate experience. The fee is $10/person and there is no overnight option for parents and families at either campus. To register, you can do so via your student's orientation registration process on their portal as it will ask for your information. Please note that the student is responsible for making any outstanding payments for both your charges and theirs prior to attending Orientation.

Transfer Students: There is no concurrent parent/family program at Transfer Orientation, therefore, students are encouraged to attend on their own when possible. Should your student choose to bring someone to an on-campus session, there is no additional cost.
