Parents and Families

We strongly believe that family provides crucial support for the experiences that students will encounter at FIU. Orientation and Family Programs exist to help with this transition beginning at Orientation.

We invite all parents and families to participate in our Parent and Family week of opportunities.

Parent and Family Orientation

What to expect

First-Year Students: Parent and Family Orientation is an optional program that runs concurrently with the first day of your First-Year Orientation. It will provide your as the parent/family member with important information about FIU tailored to your role in students' collegiate experience. The fee is $10/person and there is no overnight option for parents and families at either campus. Please remember that once a parent/family member is registered, the student is responsible for making any outstanding payments for both your charges and theirs.

Transfer Students: There is no concurrent parent/family program at Transfer Orientation, therefore, students are encouraged to attend on their own when possible. Should your student choose to bring someone to an on-campus session, there is no additonal cost.

Additional Resources

We developed a free online Parent and Family Orientation course. The course is designed to provide you (as the parent and family member) with important information about FIU policies and resources. This a self-paced course and can be reviewed at your own time. It can give you all the information to best support you and your student's transition to FIU!

This orientation resource is only for parents and family members. New students, this is NOT your Orientation. Please login to my.fiu.edu to register for your Orientation under the "Orientation" tile.

This course will be available starting April 1st.

Complimentary e-book

Once you register, you can request your complimentary electronic copy of the book, College Ready: Expert Advice for Parents to Simplify the College Transition. Written by experts, each chapter addresses top-of-mind concerns and includes conversation starters to empower you to feel fully prepared for anything. The text also includes a comprehensive checklist that helps families and students stay on top of summer to-dos!
