• Wait - we have to read a book? When was this announced?

  Yes! It was announced during orientation, and it is part of the FIU Common Reading program which is an initiative that will help you understand the academic expectations of the university when it comes to reading, critical thinking, and discussions.

• Do I have to read this book if I have transfer credit that satisfied the First Year Seminar requirement?

  Absolutely! The Common Reading Program is for all first year students in the Class of 2028. Even if you're not taking the First Year Experience class, it would still benefit you to read the book as all incoming freshmen are reading it as well. There are also several events during Fall and Spring that revolve around the book including workshops, virtual author visits and an art exhibit at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art museum.

• Do I have to read this book if I am in the Honors College?

  Absolutely! The Common Reading Program is for all first year students in the Class of 2028.
