Telehealth

Telehealth at the Student Health Clinics is using electronic communications to provide or get health care services. You can get health care using your smartphone, computer, or other mobile devices. You talk with your health care provider using video chats or messaging through the FIU Health Portal.

  • Why use telehealth/virtual visits?

Telehealth allows you to remotely access health care at the Student Health Clinics while in the comfort of your own residence hall, apartment, or off-campus residence. If you have a condition that requires regular follow-ups, a condition that limits your accessibility, or a condition that doesn’t require an in-person visit with your provider, telehealth can remotely connect you to your healthcare.

    Conditions covered through telehealth:

    • Acute abdominal pain
    • Anxiety and Depression
    • Asthma medication refill (no exacerbation)
    • Colds, coughs, sore throat, or flu-like illness
    • Cold sores
    • Contraceptive consults and management (Please have your blood pressure and weight checked prior to your online visit).
    • Fatigue
    • Headache
    • Medication Refills- Must be previously diagnosed by SHS and stable on medication for hypothyroidism, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes.
    • Morning after pill
    • Pink eye or Stye
    • UTI

    2. Log onto MyHealthInfo and fill out the forms - you MUST fill these forms out BEFORE your visit.

What do I do when the clinics are closed?

A nurse is always available by phone for urgent conditions when Student Health Clinics are closed. To discuss a concern, call 305-348-8385. A nurse will take your information and give you advice on how to address your situation.

These nurses do not have access to our scheduling system or your medical records. Please do not call this line for routine appointments or test results.
