Student-Athlete Development
At FIU, we are committed to supporting the balanced development of our student-athletes by providing opportunities that foster growth both on and off the field. Through leadership development, career preparation, and community engagement, we help student-athletes build the skills, experiences, and connections needed to succeed during their time at FIU and beyond.
Leadership Development
Student-athletes gain hands-on experience leading projects, collaborating with peers, and taking initiative in real-world settings, helping them grow as confident and effective leaders both on and off the field. Leadership development opportunities include participation in the Academy of Leaders, Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, and PantherPro, each designed to help student-athletes build leadership skills, expand their networks, and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Career Readiness
To prepare student-athletes for life after college, SAAC offers personalized career coaching that meets each student-athlete where they are. From mock interviews that build confidence to employer Lunch & Learn sessions that provide insight into different industries, our programs give practical experience and real-world skills. We also provide guidance on resume building, job searching, and professional networking, helping student-athletes feel ready and confident as they take the next step in their careers.
Community Service
Our student-athletes are passionate about giving back and staying connected to the community through a wide range of meaningful service opportunities throughout the year. From team volunteer projects to campus-wide events, they make a positive impact while proudly representing FIU.
Past team initiatives have included helping organizations like Feeding South Florida, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and Pick-Up for Cancer, while campus-wide efforts have featured participation in Relay for Life, ROARthon, and the Out of Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention.
Our department also leads special service projects, including Earth Day cleanups and supporting Carlos J. Finlay Elementary during their events. These experiences not only help our community thrive, but also nurture the leadership, teamwork, and dedication to service that are at the heart of the FIU student-athlete experience.
