Student-Athlete Academic Center

The Student Athlete Academic Center (SAAC) is the home for all student-athlete academic needs. The SAAC works under a student-centered approach and provides resources that will help student-athletes be successful in and outside the classroom. The SAAC’s resources include:

Academic meetings with an Academic Coordinator
Learning Specialists
Academic Support Services Coordinator
Tutoring, study areas, computer and writing labs

With the SAAC’s student-centered approach, student-athletes utilize an objective-based study hall system which will empower them to take ownership of their academic responsibilities. In doing this, the SAAC hopes to develop independent learners, a skill that will carry into life beyond college. Student-athletes are expected to meet NCAA, Conference USA, and FIU eligibility requirements

Academic success highlights

3.397Spring term GPA (2021). Student-athletes posted a 3.31 GPA for Fall (2020) and a 3.53 GPA for Spring (2020).
3.949highest team GPA earned by Women's Golf for the Spring term, 2021. Men’s Cross Country earned the highest male GPA posting a 3.784
3.0GPA or higher for 14 of our 18 teams for the Spring term, 2021.
62of our student-athletes earned a 4.0 for the Spring term, 2021, while 202 student-athletes earned Deans List standing. 296 student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher.
44of our student-athletes earned a 4.0 for the Fall term, 2020, while 188 student-athletes earned Deans List standing. 301 student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher.
54student-athletes earned their bachelor’s degree from FIU in May, 2021. When added to our 31 graduates in December, 2020, 85 total student-athletes graduated in AY 2020-21.

Football

Ever since stepping foot on our campus, Romelo has been a model student-athlete. A natural leader, Romelo not only ensures that he is always on track academically, but makes sure those around him are also in good standing. We are expecting great things both athletically and academically from Romelo, and it is only a matter of time before the FIU community witnesses the excellence we have already seen.

Nadja Radovic
Women's Track & Field

Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Nadja is a Jumper for the FIU Track & Field team. Majoring in Accounting, Nadja has currently earned a competitive GPA while balancing the responsibilities of being a student-athlete and mentor to other international students. Her humor and good nature make her a favorite among her teammates and professors. Nadja is najbolji!

Willy Nuñez
Men's Basketball

A Junior from Orlando, FL - Willy Nuñez Jr. has always been a dedicated student. He comments how his Dominican parents gave him no choice but to be great! He is committed to success both on and off the court. Nuñez plans to major in Recreation & Sports Management with the hopes of opening up a chain of his own gyms. He loves living in Miami and the exposure to different cultures, food, and lifestyles. He is excited to finish out the semester strong and spend some time at home with family and friends.

Kelsie Campbell
Swimming & Diving

Kelsie Campbell is a great model of what being a student-athlete is all about! Originally from England, Kelsie came to FIU this past fall to study Biochemistry and be a member of the Swimming and Diving team. Not only is Kelsie intelligent, but she is an extremely hard worker! She isn’t afraid to come to the SAAC and study for hours, or make extra tutoring appointments to make sure that she receives that 100% or makes that paper the best it possibly could be. Kelsie has a promising future ahead of her, keep up the hard work!
