Save the date! Parent and Family Weekend will be Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29, 2024.

 The complete Parent and Family Weekend schedule will be available by July 2024. Registration for the 2024 Parent and Family Weekend will open Summer 2024.

In addition to attending engaging programs, activities, and athletic events—including the FIU Football game - you will also have the opportunity to explore popular attractions within the Miami area!

Request Accommodations

Individuals with disabilities may request accommodations. You must make the request no less than five (5) business days in advance by emailing orient@fiu.edu.

NEW: If you are an FIU parent and/or family member participating in the Parent & Family Weekend festivities, please pass by Orientation and Family Programs, located in the Graham Center Room 189 (Modesto Maidique Campus) from Thursday, September 21, to Friday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or on Saturday, September 23, from 9 a.m. to noon, to claim your free participant lanyard as a complimentary gift to wear around campus!

Public Opening | The Big World

  • Time: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Location: The Wolfsonian–FIU, 1001 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL, 33139
  • Admission: FREE

  • Come one, come all! Celebrate with us as we debut The Big World: Alternative Landscapes of the Modern Era, a new exhibition that upends your ideas about landscape art. From city skyline-inspired furniture and WPA mural studies to picturesque scenes for stained glass and a fantastical "Dragon Vase," the design, decorative, and fine arts of The Big World redefine the genre as more than pastoral paintings. Experience this expansive show in a night of community, culture, and Bacardi cocktails. Featuring live music by Omnisound and light bites.

The Uncaging/Trail of the Torch

  • Time: 6:45 p.m.
  • Location: Graham Center Lawns, Modesto Maidique Campus
  • Enjoy an evening of festivities on the Graham Center Lawns and witness the 19th Annual Trail of the Torch, carnival attractions and a fireworks show. It will be a night to remember!
  • This event is free and open to the FIU community!

Parent and Family Weekend FAQs

  • Begin Planning Early!

    We strongly encourage you to reserve your accommodations now as hotels and rentals can fill up! For additional resources as you plan your trip, please view this list of hotels near FIU to start booking your stay.

    To fully engage in all Parent & Family Weekend activities, we recommend arriving in Miami late evening on Thursday or early morning on Friday, and departing Miami on Sunday. 

  • Ticketed Events/Registration and Details

    There are many events during Parent and Family Weekend, some of which require the purchase of individual tickets for entry. Other events are free of charge to the community, if noted. The complete Parent and Family Weekend schedule will be available by July 2024. 

  • On-Campus Parking Information

    If you are visiting our Modesto Maidique Campus for the 2024 Parent and Family Weekend, free parking will be available for campus visitors by registering your car via our parking link sent to attendees. The parking link will be available closer to September 2024. 

    Route to parking: SW 107 Avenue and SW 16 Street.

    Parking Location: Blue Garage (PG2) in any student space (unmarked bumper blocks on floors three (3) and above).

    Please do not park in an Executive, Admin or Metered space.
