Supporting Your LGBTQIA+ Student: Stories and Advice from Parents and the FIU Pride Center*

• Time: 12:00 - 2:30 p.m.

• The event is free of charge and open to all members and guests of the FIU community! stop
• The panel will focus on the stories of parents of diverse backgrounds with children representing the diverse spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities and experiences. Guided by questions from an FIU Pride Center moderator, parents will share their child’s coming out process as well as their own process in accepting their child. Parents' stories may include discussions about young queer and trans children (elementary age) through adult children (post-college) with an emphasis on college-age students and how parents prepared or will prepare their child for college. Vulnerability and authentic stories will give the audience of students, parents, siblings, extended families, chosen families, and others the perspective they need to feel affirmed in their own process, as well as more certain about best practices in supporting LGBTQIA+ young people and adults moving forward.

Visits are valid on Friday, September 22, through Sunday, September 24. Utilization of the facility will be free of charge to you and your family members. Parents and family members must present a valid state driver's license or identification at the point of entry and communicate that you are participating in Parent and Family Weekend.  You will be asked to sign a waiver to utilize the facility and participate in programming.
