FIU Panther Families, we’re thrilled to welcome you to our campus for Family Weekend from September 25-27, 2026. Get ready for a weekend packed with fun activities, the chance to connect with other Panther families, and a great opportunity to show off your Panther pride!

Workout Together at the Wellness & Recreation Center!

  • Hours of Operation: 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Campus Recreation would like to welcome you to Family Weekend!  While you are on campus, please visit FIU’s state-of-the-art Wellness and Recreation Center (WRC). The Wellness and Recreation Center has everything you and your student need to pursue and live a fit and healthy lifestyle, including cardio and selectorized equipment, free weights, fitness classes, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and racquetball/squash courts. Parents and family members (18 years of age or older) can visit the Wellness and Recreation Center as a guest at the Modesto Maidique Campus and/or Biscayne Bay Campus.
  • Visits are valid on Friday, September 19, through Sunday, September 21. Utilization of the facility will be free of charge to currently enrolled students (with their One Card) and their family members. Family members must present a valid state driver's license or identification at the point of entry and communicate that you are participating in Family Weekend. You must show your Family Weekend Participant Lanyard on your visit to check in. You will be asked to sign a waiver to utilize the facility and participate in programming. Minors are not permitted to work out in the facility, however, they may tour the facility with a family member. If you are interested in participating in a fitness class, please visit us at wrc.fiu.edu for class availability. Admittance is on first-come, first-served basis. Looking forward to your visit! Department Open Houses - Modesto Maidique Campus

  • Time: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Stop by our participating offices/departments for a department open house and tour their space, meet and mingle with staff, and learn about how their services benefityour  student(s). All parent/family members are welcome to visit between the hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Modesto Maidique Campus.
    • Pick up a Family Weekend coaster at each participating location below and return with a complete set! Your last stop will be Orientation and Family Programs located in GC 189 to collect a coaster holder!
    • Wearing your Family Weekend Participant Lanyard is encouraged on your visit!

  • During the same hours (1–4 PM), we’ll also be hosting our Open House in the Breezeway of AHC3 Building A.   • Want to help us relaunch the FIU Parent & Family Council? The Parent & Family Council brings Panther Families together to support initiatives that directly impact student success. Through engagement, advocacy, and philanthropy, members help ensure every Panther has the resources and support to reach their full potential. Campus Tour - Modesto Maidique Campus*

  • Time (60 minute duration):
    • Tour 1 departing at 11:00 a.m.
    • Tour 2 departing at 2:00 p.m.

  • This free, guided walking tour of our Modesto Maidique Campus features views of important buildings, the library, dining facilities, and more. Enjoy exploring our campus with your student during Family Weekend!
    • Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your tour time departure. Wear comfortable shoes!

Family Weekend Silent Disco Party - Get Your Groove On!*

  • Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
  • Location: Graham Center (GC) Faculty Club
  • Join us for a Family Weekend Silent Disco dance party like no other! Students, bring your families and tune into multiple music channels with wireless headphones. Whether you're dancing together or vibing at your own pace, there’s something for everyone on the dance floor!

Visit the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

  • Hours: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Location: FIU Modesto Maidique Campus, 10975 SW 17th Street, Miami, FL 33199
  • Whether you’re exploring our exhibitions, bringing the kids along, or enjoying a treat at Vicky Café, we want your visit to be exceptional. Be sure to check out our family-friendly activities, including origami making, museum bingo, and coloring stations—fun for children and their families alike!

Student Affairs Spotlight: Meet the Team

  • Time: 4:00 p.m.
  • Location: Graham Center Ballroom Lobby

FIU Volleyball vs. Coastal Carolina University

  • Time: 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: Ocean Bank Convocation Center, Modesto Maidique Campus
  • FIU’s volleyball team will compete in the 305 Invitational from September 18–20, 2025!
  • FIU volleyball games are free and open to the public. Students receive free admission with their FIU One Card.
A Star Party with the Stocker Astroscience Center*
  • Time: 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.
  • Location: Stocker Astroscience Center at the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus
  • Grab your family and spend a night under the stars with us at the Stocker AstroScience Center! Students and their family members are invited to tour and learn more about South Florida's only research-grade telescope and FIU’s very own observatory. In collaboration with Dr. James R. Webb, world-renowned astrophysicist and FIU professor of physics, you’ll get to experience one of FIU’s most unique Family Weekend traditions — a Star Party! The evening will kick off with a 15-minute presentation by Dr. Webb, followed by 30-minute rotating tours of the observatory throughout the night.

Family Weekend FAQs

  • Begin Planning Early!

    We highly recommend booking your accommodations as soon as the dates are announced, as hotels and rentals tend to fill up quickly! For additional resources as you plan your trip, please view this list of hotels near FIU to start booking your stay.

    To fully engage in all Family Weekend activities, we recommend arriving in Miami late evening on Thursday or early morning on Friday, and departing Miami on Sunday. 

  • Registration and Details

    Family Weekend is from Friday, September 15 - Sunday, September 27, 2026.

    Registration for Family Weekend will open Summer 2026.

  • Request Accommodations

    Should you need an ADA accommodation to participate in a University event, program, or activity or need to request materials in an accessible format, please contact FIU's Office of Civil Rights (OCR) at 305-348-2785 or accommodations@fiu.edu and copy orient@fiu.edu. All requests for ADA accommodation or accessible materials for this event must be submitted to OCR at least seven (7) business days prior to the event or at the earliest possible opportunity.

  • On-Campus Parking Information

    If you are visiting our Modesto Maidique Campus for the 2026 Family Weekend, free parking will be available for campus visitors by registering your car via a parking link closer to the start of the registration period.
