  • Miami as Text

Miami as Text is the world as seen by the students of John William Bailly of the FIU Honors College at Florida International University. The project provides authentic reflections through a juxtaposition of image and text. Neighborhood by neighborhood, place by place, object by object, young people respond with praise and criticism to The Magic City. In addition, Miami as Text projects see young Miamians journey across España, France, and Italia and reflect upon Western Europe with a unique Miami perspective.

These are not diaries or summaries of experiences. Miami as Texts projects are academic reflections that see students utilize a place as a starting point to reflect on a broader social, cultural, or historical issue. Visit miamiinmiami.com/miamiastext/directory/.

  • Student Food Pantry Online Donations

Donate to the FIU Student Food Pantry! The pantries are available to FIU students who might be experiencing food insecurity. During 2021-2022, our pantries provided over 80,000 pounds of food to students. The pantries are donations based, which means that all the food distributed comes from donations made by staff, faculty, alumni, members of the community, and student groups. If you have any questions, please contact pantry@fiu.edu

Student Food Pantry Donation Challenge

As an FIU Community, we want your support in collecting a goal of 2,000 pounds of items for our students in need. If a student/family brings at least 10 pounds or more, we can achieve our united goal!

There are two pantry locations and they are donations based. The student food pantry provides non-perishable food items including canned proteins, fruits, dairy, vegetables, and soups, along with grains, oils and condiments. Toiletry items are also provided in our pantry.

Be a part of this challenge! From November 7 - 10, students, parents and family members can drop off non-perishable food donations and/or toiletries to our office (Orientation and Family Programs) located in the Graham Center Room 189 during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m - 5 p.m.). Students, parents and family members can also drop off items at Parent & Family Check In Station between 9 a.m. - Noon and at the Parent & Family Networker from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 12.
