Academic Services
Academic Coordinators
Academic Coordinators play a key role in supporting student-athletes throughout their academic journey at FIU. They meet regularly with freshmen, transfer students, and select upperclassmen to discuss academic progress, college transition, personal well-being, and overall success. During these meetings, Academic Coordinators help student-athletes stay on track by reviewing coursework, grades, upcoming assignments, tutoring needs, travel schedules, and individual goals. They also provide guidance on eligibility requirements, course selection, and balancing the demands of academics and athletics, serving as a consistent resource and advocate throughout the student-athlete experience.
Academic Advisor (Major Advisor)
Student-athletes meet with their Academic Advisor each semester prior to priority registration to discuss academic progress and plan their upcoming course schedule. Advisors help students select courses that align with their degree requirements, academic goals, and personal interests while ensuring they remain on track toward graduation. Advising appointments are scheduled through Panther Success Network (PSN), providing student-athletes with an easy and convenient way to connect with their advisor and access ongoing academic guidance throughout their time at FIU.
Student Life Skills (SLS 1501)
SLS1501 is designed specifically to support student-athletes as they transition to college and navigate the unique demands of balancing academics, athletics, and personal development. Through interactive discussions and skill-building activities, the course introduces strategies for academic success, time management, goal setting, campus engagement, and career preparation. The course also connects student-athletes with valuable campus resources while fostering the leadership, communication, and life skills needed to thrive at FIU and beyond.
