DRC Student Laptop Loaner Program

Please note: Laptops are limited and loaned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Apple devices are NOT available, which includes iPad, iPhone, and Macbook. If you need an Apple device because of a disability, please speak with your assigned Access Consultant.

Prior to checking out a laptop computer from the DRC, you must:

  1. Actively be registered with the Disability Resource Center.
  2. Registered for classes at FIU.

Pick Up and Return Policy:

Borrowers must pick up and return their reserved laptops from FIU MMC Campus (11200 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL, 33199) inside GC 190 unless otherwise noted. The DRC does not ship laptop rentals to students or accepts returns through the mail. Each student must physically bring back the equipment to the location they took it from.

Borrowers are financially responsible for:

Full replacement cost of all laptop computers and peripherals checked out to you if lost, damaged, or stolen during the checkout period.  A hold will be placed on your FIU student account until the balance is paid or the equipment is returned. You cannot register, receive grades, or a transcript until the balance is paid, the hold is cleared, and/or the equipment is returned. Individual cases may be referred to Student Affairs for disciplinary action.

Additional Items & Guidelines:

The maximum period of time for which the laptop can be checked out is one semester. Never leave the laptop computer unattended while it is checked out to you. It is highly recommended that all personal files be saved on your USB Flash Drive. Any files created and saved on the laptop are automatically erased when the PC is turned off. For security reasons, Bluetooth and any installations, except for Zoom, are disabled by the Division of IT. FIU and the DRC assume no responsibility for files stored on the hard drive or on the laptop’s peripheral components. FIU and the DRC are not responsible for any computer viruses that may be transferred to, or from, a user’s disk or network account. All Dell laptops are Internet and wireless-ready and come with Microsoft Office Professional, McAfee antivirus, and Acrobat Reader. Personal software may not be loaded onto the laptop computer at any time. Violation of the above policies will constitute grounds for refusal of future service and/or disciplinary action.

If you meet and agree with the criteria above, please contact recast@fiu.edu.
