Maria Walker
Bio
Maria Walker is the Assistant Director of Advising Initiatives for the Office of Academic Support Initiatives & Services (OASIS). She moved to Miami from Colombia in 2006. Maria earned her Master’s in Higher Education Administration at Florida International University and her Bachelor’s in Industrial Design from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogota, Colombia. She joined the FIU family in 2019 after working 11 years in various assignments within Student Services at Miami Dade College. Maria is passionate about student success, focusing on retention initiatives, planning strategies, and providing support to advisors during freshmen orientation. When out of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, unleashing her creativity through jewelry-making, and appreciates a good conversation over a cup (or two) of coffee, proving that Colombia is always in her heart.
