The goal is to provide all panthers with the resources and opportunities they need to reach their fullest potential here at FIU and beyond. We accomplish this through:
Our knowledgeable staff continually engages in research and evaluation, professional development opportunities, and on- and off-campus partnership-building. Through our Safe Zone Training, we offer valuable resources to educate faculty, staff, and students on diverse topics centering gender, orientation, and their intersections with other identities and experiences.
Our summer Pride Leaders Program (PLP) develops student's leadership skills that they apply to improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ people through their roles as students, as future professionals in their various careers, and as civically engaged members of our democracy.
We also fund students who wish to attend the LGBTQ Task Force's Creating Change Conference each year. Creating Change is the foremost leadership skills-building conference for LGBTQIA+ support.
FIU Panthers can request Programs on Demand (e.g., Gender Pronoun Use), and attain further educational resources and opportunities directly from the student organizations we advise (e.g., Pride Student Union).
We are committed to ensuring all students succeed here at FIU and beyond. This means listening to students' needs and working alongside them to develop the support systems and spaces that impact their progress. We provide events, resources, advisement, and opportunities that empower students to become effective and affirming leaders.
Have you seen our Gender Inclusive Restrooms List? We help move the university toward more inclusive facilities across campus.
Did you know FIU has Gender Inclusive Housing and Pride Floors? These are application-based when signing up for housing at FIU. Learn more via Housing and Residential Life.
Our Mentorship Program trains faculty, staff, and graduate student volunteers to serve as guides and role models in the positive development of students’ academic and non-academic lives.
We advise the Pride Student Union, a bureau under the Student Government Association, in representing and supporting student interests on campus. Check out the Trans Resource Directory, which the PSU updates on an annual basis.
We are also responsible for contributing to and expanding FIU's Chosen First Name and Pronoun Use Policy to other documents and systems at FIU. Don't see your chosen name showing up somewhere? Let us know so we can work with the necessary entities at FIU to resolve this.
If there is something the Pride Center cannot immediately provide, we refer students to Health and Wellness services (e.g., PanthersCare, Fostering Panther Pride, CAPS/VEP, and Financial Aid) or off-campus services and we follow up to ensure your needs are met.
We work to establish a strong sense of belonging to FIU among our LGBTQIA+ students through the celebration of who they are and what they accomplish. We do this through scholarships, organizing and participating in events like Miami Beach Pride, and holding a specialLavender Graduation ceremony to honor our LGBTQIA+ graduates each semester.
Graduating soon? We want to celebrate you! Notify us through this form which opens at the beginning of the Fall and Spring terms. You will be invited to attend Lavender Graduation the weekend before finals week and earn your Lavender Medallion to be worn at your department's commencement ceremony.
Our office is a community effort. We encourage you to submit your ideas and get involved in our program planning and implementation. Please reach out to us at pridecenter@fiu.edu.
