Pride Center Scholarships
Scholarships are available to qualifying students based on a multitude of factors, including identity affiliation, academic merit, and financial need. Below are some scholarship opportunities available through the OSJI office and through external organizations.
Out and Proud LGBTQIA+ Scholarship
The Out and Proud scholarship has been instituted thanks to the support of our FIU alumni Lemar White, and the DC Proud Professionals Network. The scholarship will be to honor, recognize, and support commendable LGBTQIA+ students at FIU. The Out and Proud scholarship is awarded annually to two eligible FIU students.
The recipients of the Out and Proud scholarship are announced at the Spring Lavender Graduation and Leadership Recognition Ceremony.
Turner Scholarship
Turner Construction, a national construction management company with a local office in Miami, recruits more engineering students from FIU for internships and full-time positions than from any other local university. The Pride Alliance at Turner Construction wants to encourage diverse talent within the engineering field, so they teamed up with the Pride Center team to create a scholarship for LGBTQIA+ students studying engineering or construction management. This student will exemplify their company’s core values of teamwork, integrity and commitment. Learn more and apply here.
Javon A. Stovall Memorial Scholarship
The Javon A. Stovall Memorial (JASM) scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Javon A. Stovall, a 2020-2021 graduate assistant of FIU’s Pride Center and graduate student in the Master’s in Higher Education program at Florida International University. Javon was a queer and disabled student of color who valued social justice education, leadership development, and scholarship. The JASM scholarship is awarded annually to one eligible FIU graduate student who carries forward the legacy and values that Javon exemplified during his time at FIU.
