Keynote Speaker
Sylvester "Sly" Williams
SYLVESTER “SLY” WILLIAMS is a former NFL player, Super Bowl Champion, and entrepreneur who teaches leaders how to build championship mindsets. His journey—from overcoming poverty and academic struggles to achieving football’s highest honor—proves that resilience, discipline, and accountability are the foundation of success.
At FIU’s Men of Character and Leaders event, Sly will bring high energy, raw authenticity, and powerful insights to inspire young men to lead with integrity, make bold decisions, and develop the mindset of a champion. He understands that life presents obstacles, but with the right mindset, a solid plan, and an unshakable commitment to growth, anyone can rise to greatness.
Through his 5 Pillars of Championship Life methodology, Sly has dedicated his post-NFL career to helping others maximize their potential. He delivers personalized, impactful messages that engage audiences and equip them with actionable strategies for leadership, accountability, and long-term success.
Sly’s passion for leadership isn’t just something he speaks about—it’s how he lives. Whether in his family, friendships, or business ventures, he leads with purpose, proving that true champions are made through character, commitment, and perseverance.
Building future leaders
The Men of Character Leadership Symposium (MOCLS) educates, empowers, and engages FIU students to address the needs and issues that are specific to men in higher education and strive for excellence in personal, professional, and academic pursuits. We achieve this by providing our students the opportunity to connect with and learn from their peers, faculty, staff, alumni, and professionals who have navigated through these very issues, while also highlighting their success. The leadership symposium is a unique networking opportunity for participants to learn from each other by participating in panel discussions, working groups, workshops, and networking with professional men of color who are leaders in their respective fields.
