FIU's Varsity Rocket League team named champions at the 2023 ECAC tournament
The FIU Varsity Rocket League esports team closed out an exciting 2024 competitive season last week ranked 13th overall in the Collegiate Conference Series and is headed to conference playoffs against Louisiana Tech this week.
Rocket League, a soccer match-style video game played using vehicles in place of athletes, has risen in popularity at FIU in recent years, sparking the FIU Esports program to announce Varsity Rocket League as its second-ever university-sponsored competitive team in late 2023.
FIU Varsity competes among more than 100 college-sponsored groups in the Collegiate Conference Series – now in its third season – facing teams from University of Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Villanova, LSU and more.
“In less than a year, our Rocket League players have proven FIU is a force to be reckoned with in the collegiate esports world! We’re very proud of their inaugural season and look forward to what they and all our varsity teams have in store in the upcoming academic year,” said Jose Toscano, Senior Director of Student Life & Development, who oversees the FIU Esports program.
