DRC Student Laptop Loaner Program
Please note: Laptops are limited and loaned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The DRC has streamlined the laptop loan-out program with the rest of the University in an effort to provide laptops that are supported and maintained with the most up-to-date software.
- DRC students who need a laptop as part of their accommodations can meet with their Access Consultant to receive a DRC Semester Laptop Rental Card.
Once the student is assigned the accommodation and is provided with the rental card, you may contact the FIU library to pick up your laptop.
Please note that the library requests all laptops to be returned and switched out at the end of every semester to ensure that the library can make the appropriate system updates.
Borrowers are financially responsible for:
- Full replacement cost of all laptop computers and peripherals checked out to you if lost, damaged, or stolen during the checkout period.
- A hold will be placed on your FIU student account until the balance is paid or the equipment is returned.
- You cannot register, receive grades, or receive a transcript until the balance is paid, the hold is cleared, and/or the equipment is returned.
- Individual cases may be referred to Student Affairs for disciplinary action.
Additional Items & Guidelines:
- The maximum period of time for which the laptop can be checked out is one semester.
- Never leave the laptop computer unattended while it is checked out to you.
- It is highly recommended that all personal files be saved on your USB Flash Drive. Any files created and saved on the laptop are automatically erased when the PC is turned off.
- For security reasons, Bluetooth and any installations, except for Zoom, are disabled by the Division of IT.
- FIU and the DRC assume no responsibility for files stored on the hard drive or on the laptop’s peripheral components.
- FIU and the DRC are not responsible for any computer viruses that may be transferred to, or from, a user’s disk or network account.
- All Dell laptops are Internet and wireless-ready and come with Microsoft Office Professional, McAfee Antivirus, and Acrobat Reader.
- Personal software may not be loaded onto the laptop computer at any time.
If you meet and agree with the criteria above, please contact your Access Consultant or contact us at 305-348-3532.
