Civic Engagement

Civic engagement can be defined as citizens working together to make a change or difference in the community. Civic engagement includes communities working together in both political and non-political actions. The goal of civic engagement is to address public concerns and promote the quality of the community.
  • Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE)

    The Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE) program promotes student development through engaged citizenship and democratic participation. 

    Is your current voter registration up to date? Are you planning to vote in Florida? Registering to vote just got easier! In January 2015, state Sen. Jeff Clemens filed Senate Bill 228 to create an online voter registration system. Florida's Governor Rick Scott passed this bill into a law in May 2015. Almost two years later, Florida residents are now able to register online and all you need is your Florida state driver's license or state I.D.

    Visit registertovoteflorida.gov, and you'll be registered to vote in no time!

  • Engagement Week
    Engagement Week is designed to promote awareness of the impact that civic and democratic involvement can have in local, national, and global communities. Resource and Volunteer Fairs, panel discussions, dynamic speakers, and philanthropic as well as service projects are among the activities provide opportunities for local leaders and FIU students to learn more about challenges in their communities. In the past, we've collaborated with different programs and FIU offices to produce cooking demos, voter registration drives, and discussions. 
  • Voter Friendly Campus
    FIU was designated as a “Voter Friendly Campus.”  The Voter Friendly Campus initiative is led by national nonpartisan organizations, Campus Vote Project (CVP) and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
