Dr. Fareed Haj Scholarship Endowment

Nadia Dory with President at Awards
Dorysped Mancebo Ortega, FIU alumna and past Haj Scholar;
Nadia Haj, scholarship donor; and FIU President Kenneth A. Jessell

FIU is pleased to continue the legacy of Dr. Fareed Haj. Created with a generous lead gift from the Haj family, this endowment in perpetuity supports FIU students who are blind or visually impaired. A selfless example of the importance of family and community service, Dr. Haj’s life and career trajectory were greatly influenced by the availability of scholarships he received to study in New York as a young man, which prepared him to dedicate his career to the education of South Florida students with disabilities.

By supporting the endowment in his honor, donors have the unique opportunity to honor Dr. Haj’s belief in the power of higher education. Your donation will ensure that FIU’s blind and visually impaired students are provided an opportunity to receive financial support that will assist in alleviating some of the costs and obstacles incurred in the pursuit of a higher education degree.

This unique scholarship opportunity is currently administered by the FIU DRC. The DRC is responsible for providing students with disabilities the necessary support to successfully complete their education and to equally participate in activities available to students. Committed to enhancing the academic pursuits of individuals with disabilities, the DRC facilitates full participation in all University programs and activities, thus empowering students with disabilities to realize their educational goals.
