Men of Character Leadership Symposium

Keynote Speaker - Alexander Star, Emmy-nominated artist, songwriter and producer
Alexander Star is an Emmy-nominated recording artist, songwriter, and producer known for turning music into movement. As Visit Lauderdale’s official Artist Ambassador, he created “Laudy Dayo,” the destination anthem featured in national campaigns and the Rose Parade. His work has powered initiatives tied to the Super Bowl, the United Nations, and organizations like 211 Helpline and the Children’s Services Council. Star was also featured on two seasons of the French primetime television series Les Anges, where he served as a songwriter, producer, vocal coach, and mentor to rising influencers. Locally, he composed the official anthem for Xtreme Action Park, where his song “Let’s Play” greets thousands at the entrance daily.
Alexander Star was selected to compose and perform an official anthem for Rwanda’s Ubumuntu Arts Festival, an annual event centered on peace and reconciliation in the post-genocide nation. Traveling to Rwanda two years in a row, he collaborated with local artists and brought that anthem to life on an international stage. Songs like “Show Me The Way” reflect that journey, carrying themes of guidance, healing, and forward direction.
At the Men of Character Summit, Star will deliver a live keynote concert that blends music and message into one immersive experience, challenging students to elevate how they carry themselves, how they show up, and how to lead when no one's watching.
Building future leaders
The Men of Character Leadership Symposium (MOCLS) educates, empowers, and engages FIU students to address the needs and issues that are specific to men in higher education and strive for excellence in personal, professional, and academic pursuits. We achieve this by providing our students the opportunity to connect with and learn from their peers, faculty, staff, alumni, and professionals who have navigated through these very issues, while also highlighting their success. The leadership symposium is a unique networking opportunity for participants to learn from each other by participating in panel discussions, working groups, workshops, and networking with professional men of color who are leaders in their respective fields.
