How To Join

  • Interfraternity Council (IFC)

    About

    The Interfraternity Council at Florida International University is the governing body for 10 men’s fraternities on campus. The Interfraternity Council exists to promote its shared interests and values of leadership, service, brotherhood, and scholarship to create better communities, better chapters, and better men.

    How To Join

    Step 1: Register for recruitment at go.fiu.edu/fraternityrecruitment
    Step 2: Attend Mount Olympus and pre-recruitment events hosted by individual organizations.
    Step 3: Once a bid is offered by a fraternity and is officially accepted by the potential new member (PNM), they become an associate member of the fraternity until initiation.

    Requirements

    • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
    • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 or more credit hours in the Fall and Spring semesters OR 3 credit hours in the Summer.
    • Current FIU students/transfer students (having earned at least 9 credits) must have a minimum GPA of a 2.5 at FIU or at the previous institution, however, individual chapters may have higher GPA requirements for current FIU students.

      Incoming freshmen must have a minimum GPA of a 2.7 (unweighted) in high school. Individual chapters may have higher GPA requirements for membership.

  • Panhellenic Council (CPH)

    About

    The Panhellenic Council at Florida International University is the governing body for 7 women’s sororities on campus. The Panhellenic Council promotes women in leadership, diversity, scholastic achievement, and service through relationships within and beyond the Panhellenic community.

    How To Join

    Step 1: Register for recruitment at go.fiu.edu/sororityrecruitment
    Step 2: Attend Panhellenic Formal Recruitment and Panhellenic Promotional Events hosted by individual organizations.
    Step 3: Once a bid is offered by a sorority and is officially accepted by the potential new member (PNM), they become a new member of the sorority/women's fraternity until initiation.

    Requirements

    • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
    • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 or more credit hours in the Fall and Spring semesters.
    • Current FIU students (having earned at least 9 credits) must have a minimum GPA of a 2.7, however, individual chapters may have higher GPA requirements for current FIU students.
    • Incoming freshmen/transfer students must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 (unweighted) in high school or a minimum GPA of a 2.7 at the previous institution. Individual chapters may have higher GPA requirements for membership

  • Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)

    About

    The Multicultural Greek Council is the governing body for 6 culturally-based fraternities and sororities on campus. These organizations promote global awareness and inclusivity through their programming efforts, values, presence, and overall impact on students.

    How To Join

    Organizations in MGC choose which semesters they will recruit new members. All individuals interested in joining an MGC organization must attend an informational hosted by the organization they are interested in joining the same semester they intend to begin the membership intake process. Information on each organization's informational events can be found on our website and on our social media platforms.

    • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
    • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 or more credit hours in the same semester you intend on beginning the new member process.
    • Current FIU students and Incoming transfer students (having earned at least 12 credits) must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, however, individual chapters may have higher GPA requirements.

  • National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC/Divine 9)

    About

    The National Pan-Hellenic Council is the governing body for 6 historically Black fraternities and sororities on campus. These organizations promote unity and expose members to the “service for life” philosophy and foster leadership development and scholarship.

    Each council (CPH, IFC, MGC, NPHC) and individual organization has different policies and procedures for recruitment or membership intake.

  • How do I know what Fraternity or Sorority is right for me?

    The Greek Community at FIU has diverse group of students and organizations. In choosing what organization best fits your values and goals, you should starts by knowing your own.

    Make a list of the benefits you are looking for in an organization. Use the local, as well as the national/international websites as a guide. Make sure to review the open motto or sayings, the philanthropy or service involvement, the leadership development opportunities, and the academic requirements and assistance.

  • Is there a cost associated with joining a Fraternity or Sorority?

    Each individual fraternity or sorority does have a cost associated with membership. While each organization cost differs, dues typically include insurance, national/international dues, normal operating expenses, and programming.

  • Do you allow hazing at FIU?

  • What should I be doing to prepare myself prior to joining?

    Make sure that you are enrolled full-time in classes and maintain an above-average GPA, get involved in service and leadership opportunities around campus and in your community, and work on creating or updating your resume.

  • What is Recruitment?

    Recruitment offers an opportunity to meet chapter members and peers while learning what each organization has to offer. Throughout the process, Council Ambassadors/Recruitment Guides of Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils will answer all questions that may arise while participating in recruitment. Participating in the recruitment process does not require a person to join a chapter but does provide them an opportunity to explore and learn about the campus and Greek community.
