Honoring Those Who Served

With more than 1,200 student veterans and military-affiliated students, FIU has developed programming and systems that are aimed at helping them and their families succeed. For its commitment to supporting these students, FIU is ranked among the top research institutions by Military Friendly. This November, please join us in honoring and celebrating Veterans Appreciation Month. 

  • Veteran Appreciation Giveaway Campaign

    The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs will be giving away VMA swag baskets to two lucky winners! Here’s how to enter for a chance to win:

    • In-Person Giveaway Campaign: Attend 4 VMA hosted events throughout Veteran Appreciation Month. Be sure to swipe in at each event as proof of attendance. The winner will be randomly selected and announced on Monday, November 21.
    • Virtual Giveaway Campaign: Participate each week of November by posting on Instagram regarding the prompts listed below. Be sure to tag us (@FIUVMA) and use the hashtag #FIUVetAppreciation. The winner will be randomly selected and announced on Monday, November 21.
      • Week 1 (October 31-November 6): Post about your FIU experience as a student Veteran or military-affiliated student.
      • Week 2 (November 7-13): Post about your military experience and how it prepared you for college.
      • Week 3 (November 14-20): Share what you’re thankful for as an FIU student.
  • American Flag Placement Event

    Date: November 1 (on display through November 30)
    Location: Graham Center Lawns

    Each American flag displayed on the Graham Center lawns will represent Veteran alumni, students, and staff members in our FIU community. We encourage Panthers and guests to take pictures at this display and tag @FIUVMA on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

  • Annual Virtual 1M, 5K, and 10K

    Date: November 1-30

    Join us for the Annual Virtual 1-mile, 5K, and 10K race to support our FIU Veteran and military-affiliated learners. To participate and appear in the official results, upload your time by November 30 at 11:59 p.m. Individuals who register will receive a free t-shirt and finisher medal. This race is open to all FIU students, faculty, staff, and community members.  All proceeds will benefit our FIU Veteran and military-affiliated students.

  • Hybrid Workshop: Applying for USA Jobs

  • Hybrid Workshop: Interviewing Skills and Resume Writing

  • Veterans Day Wreath Laying Ceremony

    FIU Interim President Kenneth A. Jessell will host a Wreath Laying Ceremony to honor and recognize our Veterans who have selflessly served their country. Guests are welcome to join us in person or you can watch Instagram Live on the official FIU Veteran & Military Affairs Instagram.

  • Annual Veterans Day Celebration Breakfast

    Each year, more than 450 community members, active duty members, Veteran family members, elected officials, and community leaders gather together to highlight our Veterans’ ultimate sacrifice for our country. This event features keynote addresses by an FIU alumni Veteran and nationally recognized Veteran.

  • Saluting Those Who Served Tailgate and Football Game
