Facilitation of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings are FREE for all FIU students, student groups, and classes.

All faculty and staff requests can be found online in the "Trainings" section of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion website.

Our team will work directly with each individual request to ensure our training meets your needs.

Topics include:

  • Gender Pronoun Use
    Participants will explore gender concepts, learn the importance of pronoun use, and learn
    how they can respectfully engage with Panthers who have diverse genders, bodies, and
    experiences.
  • Introduction to Intersectionality
    Participants will explore the origins of the term, learn about their multiple identities, and
    engage in discussion about the overlap and impact.
  • Introduction to Feminism
    Participants will explore feminism’s origins, learn the “waves” of feminism, and consider
    how can feminism impacts people of all genders and orientations.
  • Let’s Talk About Civil Discourse and Vulnerable Communication
    Participants will learn how to engage in civil discourse and better understand the
    underpinnings of vulnerability, active listening, and intentional engagement.
  • thisABILITY: Ableism, Rights, Power & Progress
    Participants will explore definitions, experiences and history of the language, policies, and
    behaviors that perpetuate ableism while learning how to identify, address, and advocate.
  • Supporting and Affirming LGBTQA+ students
    Participants will learn history, statistics, language, and other resources that will assist
    Panthers in supporting and including LGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Understanding Environmental Justice
    Participants will explore the disproportionate effects of climate change, examine efforts
    that have been made, and learn how Panthers can play a role in making change.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Training Module

We encourage students to sign up for the EVERFI Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging online training module. Individuals who complete this training will:

  • Learn about key concepts related to identity, bias, power, privilege and oppression;
  • Understand the benefits of being part of a diverse community; and
  • Develop skills related to ally behavior, self-care, and creating inclusive spaces.

The Multi-Faith Council is comprised of multiple religious organizations from different faith traditions. These organizations are devoted to their unique religious traditions, but together as a council, they serve the FIU community through a commitment to foster an atmosphere that both nurtures the intellectual dimensions of faith as well as encourage the spiritual dimensions of education. 

Inclusive Language Guide

Language is a way of communicating, acknowledging and validating identities, ideas, concerns, requests and culture. Inclusive language communicates our values. We choose to represent our values and ideals at Florida International University as inclusive, respectful, and kind.

You are encouraged to use oral or written language that is welcoming to and affirming of everyone’s race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, class, religion, ability or disability, health status, or veteran status.

The use of inclusive and welcoming oral and written language is the standard for all our departmental documents, correspondences, marketing materials, academic coursework materials, presentations, conversations, lectures, syllabi, as well as written and oral student assessment materials.
