Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my family attend?

Your parents and family are not required to attend, but they are more than welcome to join us! This event is a celebration of our new students, and we appreciate that many family members typically join us to help us kick off our new academic year.

  • Panther Convocation is mandatory, but what if I am not in town at the time of the event?

While this event is a mandatory part of the onboarding process for our new students, we recognize that there may be some students who are unable to join us on August 19. However, please be aware that classes begin on August 21.

If you are unable to attend because you will not be in Miami on August 19, you should work with your academic advisor as needed to ensure that your class schedule is finalized and you are ready to begin classes on August 21. You can connect with your academic advisor via the Panther Success Network on the my.fiu.edu portal.

  • Panther Convocation is mandatory, but what if I have to work?

Given the advanced notice for this event, our hope is that you are able to make arrangements with your employer so that you may attend this official start to your academic journey at FIU.
