Theodore R. & Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship

The Johnson Scholarship Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to helping students with disabilities access higher education. The foundation believes education can empower individuals to improve their quality of life.

The Theodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship is a State of Florida University System program, which is competitively awarded and available to undergraduate students with disabilities.

The 2026-2027 Theodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship application is now open, please submit your application by May 1^st at the following link: Johnson Scholarship Application 2026–2027

• Eligibility Criteria

  Students must meet the following requirements to be considered for scholarship selection:

  • Be a Florida resident for tuition purposes
  • Be seeking a first baccalaureate degree
  • Complete an initial Theodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship Application in Academic Works
  • Meet academic requirements
  • Provide documentation of the nature and/or extent of a disability(ies)
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)/institutional need. Submit a FAFSA or renewal FAFSA form by the required deadline at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.  Confirm that the Federal School Code for your university is designated so that the university has access to your results in assessing your unmet financial need.

  If selected, recipients must:

  • Complete a minimum of nine (9) credit hours each semester or 18 credit hours over fall, spring, and summer semesters
  • Maintain the minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average requirement of this program
  • Continue to have unmet financial/institutional need demonstrated through FAFSA 

  *NOTE: Johnson Scholarship recipients may qualify for the award for up to 120 semester credit hours of undergraduate study.

• Applying for the First Time

  If you are applying for the Johnson Scholarship for the first time, please submit your application by May 1^st at this link: Johnson Scholarship Application 2026–2027

  Eligible applicants will be awarded within the first two weeks of the Fall 2026 semester. 

• Renewal Applicants

  If you submitted a Johnson Scholarship application in Academic Works last year, you do not need to reapply.  Your renewal will be automatic as long as you remain eligible and have an existing Academic Works application for the FIU Johnson scholarship.

  This includes new applicants, renewal applicants that have not previously submitted an Academic Works application for the Johnson Scholarship, and any students who received the Johnson Scholarship at another institution.
