The Women’s Center will facilitate a discussion addressing pink tax and its impact on affordability and access to quality products and services. The pink tax refers to the higher prices often charged for products and services marketed towards women compared to similar items aimed at men. This phenomenon is not a formal tax but rather a pricing disparity observed in various consumer goods, including toiletries, clothing, and even personal services. For instance, studies have shown that items like women's razors and shampoos can be more expensive than their male counterparts, despite being nearly identical in function. The term "pink tax" is derived from the association of the color pink with femininity, leading to the notion that products tailored for women often carry a premium. The conversation will focus on understanding pink tax, period equity, and women’s reproductive health given current legislation.

Guilarte's laboratory at Florida International University from the perspective of a Ph.D. student, highlighting efforts to understand the role of an early biomarker of neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease. We will also discuss the work of the Group of Neurosciences of Antioquia in studying the world's largest kindred with familial Alzheimer's disease in Colombia and explore how this research has impacted patients, families, and the broader community, while also advancing our understanding of Alzheimer's disease and informing potential prevention methods and treatments for patients worldwide.
